I ran round my flat! - 19 October 00
What a great week yet again to be a gooner. I am one of these
unfortunate people who was not in Rome
on Tuesday night and I don't
have OnDigital. But Jonathon Pearce kept me
company and he was great,
really cheering the team on. And he got so excited when Pires scored
it was like we had won the League. As the final whistle went my dad
rang me (he's also a gooner) and said he had been watching Sky and
Frank McLintock commentate on the game and Frank was openly bias (later
when I watched the highlights, Bob Wilson was too, funnily enough).
When I heard that Prague had lost and we were definitely in the second
round I was so excited I ran round my flat screaming, I dread to think
what my neighbours thought!
A lot has been written about Gilles facing an UEFA ban and racist
comments aimed at Patrick, and the press seem to have forgotten what
Arsenal have achieved. Arsenal with a depleted side and a goalie who
hadn't played first team football for 3 years had showed their strength
and determination and got a draw away against the Champions League
favourites and got through to the second stage with two games still to
play. The atmosphere will be great on Wednesday.
When I came into the office on Wednesday morning by boss (the Chelsea
fan) congratulated me on the win, but added the caveat that we hadn't
done badly for dodgy North Londoners! I also got emails from friends
congratulating me, it was like I had played myself.
It is now back to the grindstone and a trip east
to West Ham. Not a
good hunting ground last year with
sendings off, but on the same day
Chelsea beat Man Utd 5-0. So let's keep everyone on the pitch and
Dennis how about a hat trick?
