ArseWeb Charities page
The money we get from the ads at the top of ArseWeb pages allows
us to pay our expenses. The amount we get coming in varies quite
a bit from month to month so it's impossible to predict in advance
how much (if anything) we'll have in excess of expenses.
But we do intend to keep giving some of that excess to good causes.
This is partly in recognition of the fact that we rely on contributors
from around the world for some of our material (and partly cos
it's a good thing to do).
If you have any good ideas for charities that would be worthy recipients of
an ArseWeb donation please let me know.
Please note that I am looking only for registered charities which
have a connection to Arsenal FC, football in general, or the
Highbury/Islington area.
Below there is a list of charities we have already given money to,
and some ideas that we and others have come up with. If you have anything
to add about any of the following, again, please
email me.
Past recipients
- The Willow Foundation
- A charity set up by Bob Wilson and his wife as a memorial to their
late daughter. It helps young people with terminal illnesses. See
here for more details. ArseWeb gave them
£200 in February 2000 (see this
newsreel item)
- Kanu Nwankwo Heart Founmdation
- Set up by Kanu, to help medical provision for children with heart problems.
See here for more. ArseWeb sent them £100
in October 2000.
- Whizz-Kidz
- This Uk charity raises money for mobility aids for disabled children
(wheelchairs etc). In the autumn of 2000, a group of Arsenal fans arranged
an auction to raise money. ArseWeb
sent a £75.00 donation. See Whizz-Kidz website for more
Suggested future recipients
- Arsenal Charitable Trust
-
The base for Arsenal FC's charitable activities, disperses the money
raised by the Ex-Pro and Celebrity team. Prioroty is given to
local requests and those with an Arsenal or sporting link.
Passing the buck to give them cash perhaps, but there you go.
There's something about it on AFCi's
Sports Centre page (scroll to the bottom).
- A Parkinson's Disease-related charity
- With the Ray Kennedy connection in mind. Any suggestions?
Perhaps there's a charity with a specific connection to the
double winner....?
(thanks to Paul Murray for the suggestion)
