What You Can Do

To support the Ashburton Grove development

Be prepared... before writing a letter, and particularly before ringing a live talk show, please familiarise yourself with some of the issues at stake. Check out the AISA pages and the resources linked to on the Stadium news FAQ. The THOF2 forum is a good place to start as people from both sides have contributed.

Islington Residents

The important people for Islington residents to write to are

Islington Council

  • The leader of the Council, who is Steve Hitchins
  • The chair and vice-chair of the Planning Committee, who are Richard Heseltine and Margot Dunn respectively.
  • your local ward Councillors (there are 2 or 3 councillors per ward).
If you don't know what ward you live in, email Steven Powell at AISA and he'll tell you (makes sure you give him your address!). Alternatively, ring the Town Hall on 020 7527 2000 and they'll be able to tell you. Or you might find them here
Islington Council's website has lists of councillors etc, together with their contact details and surgery times.

All the individual councillors' pages on the Council site have postal addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses where available.

Local papers

The Highbury and Islington Express can be emailed at letters@islingtonexpress.co.uk.

The Islington Gazette can be faxed on 020 8340 2444, or letters sent to

London Residents

All Londoners can write to the Mayor Ken Livingstone (email mayor@london.gov.uk) and Ken's deputy Nicky Gavron (email nicky.gavron@haringey.gov.uk).

These could become key people as the mayor's office can veto projects as large as Ashburton Grove even if the council approves the plans.

Also, letters can be sent to the Evening Standard (email letters@standard.co.uk) and other London papers.

Responding to Coverage

Another key role you can play is in responding to coverage of the Ashburton Grove issue in local or national media. If you see or hear an unbalanced report on TV or Radio, it is well worth contacting the station to complain. Talks shows on the subject need pro-stadium people ringing in. And so on.

Feedback

AISA would be grateful if anyone receiving a reply to a letter or email would send a copy to Steve Powell spowel@mcmail.com.

Also, please let us know if you have any ideas for additions to this page.
