  • This game will be shown live on Sky Sports.

  • Arsenal team news
Manu Petit and Martin Keown are almost certainly out of this one with their long-term injuries. It is hoped that they might both be back within a couple of weeks.
Not sure why Lee Dixon missed the midweek game, so we'll have to see what the news is about him.
    update 26/02/99
Manu's had a recurrence of his ankle injury and is out for another 3 weeks.
    update 27/02/99
Latest news is that Martin Keown is said to be ready to return (see NewsReel).

  • Newcastle team news
Shearer had flu midweek, which could work both ways. He could still be under the weather (if it's anything like the one which I've had it'll drag on for a while, not that my constitution is anything like his!), but he'll have had a break. Didier Domi is also expected to have shaken off the lurgy.
Drunken Ferguson is still out, he hasn't even trained since picking up a groin injury at the turn of the year. Shearer's been partnered up front by Ketsbaia recently, although Paul Dalglish and Nicky's mate Saha are also possibilities.
Their impressive young winger Stephen Glass is making a rapid recovery from the knee injury which saw him stretchered off against Coventry last week, but although it's not been ruled out, his chances of playing on Sunday are slim.
They also have Silvio Maric available. The new £3.65million signing from Croatia Zagreb has declared himself fit and raring to go, although it's thought that Gullit isn't so sure that he's ready..

Newcastle United (0) 1 - 1 (1) Arsenal

St James' Park. Sunday 28th Feb 1999. kick-off 4pm

FA Carling Premiership

Arsenal lost ground on Chelsea and Man Utd, both winning yesterday, with this draw.

We went ahead on 37 minutes after Anelka had been put one-one-one with Given and finished well. But Newcastle got a point thanks to a 78th minute equaliser by Dietmar Hamman. It was just about their first serious attempt on goal, and came in the middle of a good spell of Arsenal pressure.

Upson came on for Overmars to shore up the defence, but Given had to come out well to deny Anelka for the best chance of a winner at 1-1. Vieira set him up with a nice pass following a powerful run.

More proof, if needed, that it's not how many goals you score that matter, just whether you score more than the opposition. Who wouldn't give 4 of the goals against Leicester for just one more in this match?

Garde started in place of Hughes in place of Petit, apart from that it was the first choice Arsenal eleven. But Garde had to be stretchered off very early (suspected sprain, I've heard) and Hughes came on.

Full report here soon.

Rupe.
