Middlesbrough (0) 0 - 2 (2) Arsenal

Riverside Stadium, 21st September 1996

Fuller report to follow... this comes from lostening to the radio.

Arsenal took the lead early on (about 2 minutes) through Hartson. Dixon went off injured, to be replaced by the returning Adams, who went on to have an excellent game.

In the first half, Ravenelli hit both Arsenal uprights. The first time from 35 yards. The second time from closer, and he should have scored. Vieira forced a good save from ex-gunner Alan Miller.

Wright got the second, after a ball from Merson had come to him thanks to a slip by a Boro defnder.

The sceond half was less eventful, but we stayed on top of the game and didn't look in too much trouble.

Apparently Boro's defence looked pretty abysmal throughout. But given that they had scored an average of 4.5 goals per home game so far before this match, it has to be saeen as a pretty encouraging result.

Capital commentator Steve Wilson said that it was the best display by an away side that he'd seen this season (I think the actual phrase was to do with not having seen a home side so ripped to shreds, and that Arsenal looked ready for BMG on Wednesday.

Livwerpool stay top after beating Chelsea 5-1 at Anfield. We're now third, only 3 points behind.
