  • Arsenal team news
Ashley Cole's hamstring injury clearly isn't as minor as we first thought (it didn't look minor at the time, to be honest). Once again Wenger has to choose betwen Upson and van Bronckhorst. Gio's second half on Wednesday was something of an arrival, so let's hope he carries on there.

Maybe Upson is up to it, but in the past he's always looked a great deal less comfortable there than in the centre of defence, so perhaps it'd be a bit hard on him to put him in there. Setting him up for a fall after having done so well recently. (although of course the ideal would be for them to prove me wrong as Upson demonstrates new-found versatility at left back).

Long term absentees Dixon and Admas are still out, along with Jeffers and Seaman.

Grimandi is reported to be out (don't know why) , the Arsenal.com preview doesn't mention it) but there are midfield options with Inamoto making the squad, as well as Edu).

  • Sunderland team news
Niall Quinn faces a late fitness test, having benn struggling with back and ankle injuries. If he doesn't make it, Lilian Laslandes is expected to partner Kevin Phillips.

Jason McAteer is due to make his home debut, and Emerson Thome is back from a knee injury.

But Kevin Kilbane is out with his ankle.
