Oleg Luzhny serves the first of his 4 match ban for the sending off
against Schalke.
Adams, Dixon, Seaman, Jeffers, and Luzhny are injured. Upson is in
the squad and therefore presumably
ready to return but following their much improved performances against
Tottenham we can't see him displacing Keown or Campbell.
Ljungberg was on the bench for the Tottenham game and may well
start
this game.
Arsenal.com is reporting that Henry has travelled to Spain as
part of the squad. If fit, he is sure to play. Without him,
Kanu and Wiltord are the only real striking options.
update Tuesday
According to TeamTalk, there are doubts over Keown and Wiltord,
as well as Henry. They say Henry is rated only about 20% to start
the game, with the swollen ankle that's kept him out for a couple
of weeks (although other reports today are quoting Thierry as
saying "I'll play through the pain" type stuff). Wenger says,
"Thierry is physically fit and would have no problem
playing in the game. He's keen to play..." and yet
"...I cannot say he was 100 per cent
when we trained [on Monday], and we will have
to look closely at him when we train at the stadium.
I have to be convinced that he can play without risking further
damage to the ankle which could put him out of other important
games. It is possible he could be on the bench."
Sylvain picked up a slight knee injury at Tottenham. So with
Bergkamp staying at home, and Jeffers still not back, Kanu could
be our only truly fit striker. Ljungberg is another option up front,
but he is only just back from injury himself. A little surprising, then,
that a youngster like Barrett or Aliadiere wasn't included in
the squad. Still, we're optimistic that at least one of Henry and
Wiltord will be able to play. Maybe they'll take a half each.
Keown hurt a rib right at the end of the Tottenham game, and
is rated about 40%. If he doesn't make it, Wenger says, he won't be
on the bench. But
the good news is that Matthew Upson is ready to return if Martin is
considered a risk.
Unfortunately Stathis Tavlaridis is not available (we signed him
too late). Otherwise, after his
impressive debut performance in the League Cup game against Man Utd's kids,
we're hoping he'd get picked ahead of Stepanovs (who is in the squad).
Sorry for confusing things by listing him as available before,
and thanks to Gareth Pointer for pointing out my error.
update Wednesday
According to World soccer news, neither Parlour nor Keown
trained last night. They are said to be not fit to play this evening. But
TeamTalk say Keown did train and will play.
But
Henry did train albeit with heavy strapping and, following a fitness test later, may start alongside
Wiltord, with Kanu on the bench
ready to come on for whichever Frenchman falls apart first. Other reports
still reckon Kanu's the only cert to start.
There is at least agreement that Ljungberg is back from his shoulder injury.
- Deportivo_La_Coruna team news
Depor's skipper Fran might miss the game. The left-winger picked
up a leg muscle problem in mid October. Although he is said to
have made a full recovery he does lack match fitness and it is
said that he might be more likely to be on the bench for the
Arsenal game. Jose Emilio Amavisca could deputise, or it
could be Juan Carlos Valeron.
Up front, Diego Tristan has been having a remarkable season
while Dutch striker Roy Makaay has been injured. But Tristan was rested at
the weekend following the international week and Makaay scored a hattrick
as he made a comeback in a 3-1 win over Real Sociedad. Coach Javier Irureta
may have to decide whether to drop him again for Tristan, although he
has hinted that he could play them both from the start.

interesting analysis of Deportivo by Brit journo Simon Kuper,
and a passionate reply. There's also some stuff about our
(briefly) ex-Depor player Sylvain Wiltord.
- UK TV/Radio coverage
Live on Carlton!!! Highlights later in other regions. For once
Carlton have gone against the national ITV decision - other regions
are showing one of Tuesday's games live. We commend Carlton for their
decision, but can't help wondering why they've done it now... there
are good reasons but why have those reasons never been considered
significant before? With the other English teams playing against
Barca and Bayern the night before, we are particularly impressed that
they've chosen this week to see sense at last. Maybe the pressure
from London football fans has had an effect at last.
