Highbury, Saturday Match 3rd 2001
FA Carling Premiership
See below for list of links to reports.
Preview
- Arsenal team news
Arsenal will once again be without Martin Keown. Not sure about
Tony Adams at this moment.
Rumour has it that Silvinho will start. Brasil have allowed him
to stay on an extra day, missing their game against the USA, to play in the match. But he will then travel to join the squad for Brasil's match against Mexico on
Wednesday, missing the Spartak game at Highbury. Lee Dixon has shrugged off
the injury which kept him out of the Man Utd debacle. Tony Adams
is still doubtful, a late decision will be made.
See Newsreel for updates.
- West_Ham_United team news
The Irons have failed to sign Arsenal old-boy Stephen Hughes in time
for their visit to Highbury. See NewsReel.
According to the Mirror, this leaves Frank Lampard as their
only available midfielder.
Not that we believe that for a second. According to the
official West Ham site, Joe Cole should be ok, but Michael Carrick is out with a hamstring problem. On this injury update page their physio cheekily suggests that
the England physio may have exagerrated the extent of Cole's ankle problem in midweek (the England physio is of course, Arsenal physio Gary Lewin!).
However Harry Redknapp, also on the official site, says that Cole will not make the game.
Another midfielder to miss the game is John Moncur (knee ligament).
Trevor Sinclair is recovering from an operation, and
both Steve Lomas and Scott Minto are also recovering
from injuries.
Ok, so the Mirror wasn't so far out after all!
Up front, Dennis Bergkamp has identified Frederic Kanoute as
the danger-man. But West Ham say he's only 50-50 to make the game,
having "stretched the middle part of his foot". TeamTalk say this
has dropped to zero.
With Kanoute out, and our old mate Paolo Di Canio suspended,
we could be facing an ex-Arsenal strike pairing of Suker and Diawara
(although someone like Titi Camara is likely to be picked ahead of Kaba).
